NUMBER ONE HUNDRED & FIFTY.

So, some pretty exciting news: the kids from Warner Music’s Cool Accidents blog selected my screen print as the winning entry in their recent Inspired competition. Thanks a tonne to those guys!

NUMBER TWENTY SIX.
October17

We Buy Your Kids (partners in crime or design, Sonny Day and Biddy Maroney) are a Sydney based collective who’ve in recent times hit it big churning out sweet screenprints for a plethora of indie mainstays. To name drop a few: Paul Dempsey, Leader Cheetah, Songs, Deerhunter, Matt & Kim, Youth Group, Dappled Cities, Tokyo Police Club, Yves Klein Blue… the list goes on.

Anyhow, they’re not just commercial kids, and to prove it they’ve currently got a show on at Monster Children Gallery; titled simply Trials. In their own words: it’s mainly screen prints, mainly 1 or 2 colours. Kinda cartoony. Three boobs. A lot of cigarette smoke. A dozen odd witches hats. A clowder of cats. Its about bad luck and badder health.

Having missed Thursday’s opening, due to unforeseen events, I popped in this morning for a look-see. I’m a massive fan of WBYK’s work, so it was nice to see the things that they’ve been working on purely for their own enjoyment (or ours). Seems like these kids are fascinated with the darker sides of life, with a wicked sense of humour thrown into the mix. Their signature obsession with pulp magazines and comics shines through either in stark black and white images or slabs of flat bright colour, all pinned up on walls that are themselves a part of the exhibit.

Show runs through November 4, so make sure you get there, no excuses.
