NUMBER ONE HUNDRED & FORTY EIGHT.

Having spent time in India last year, I was immensely moved by this video from Oxelo skateboards. Following Loic Houvenaghel, Nans Arnaud and Simon Volpoet as they skate the streets, fortresses and public spaces of North-West India, it was amazing to see places I’ve visited, such as the Tiger Fortress in Rajasthan (04:18), repurposed in a way they’ve probably never before been used. It’s great to see that the boys also got to visit a primary school during their trip, and gave kids their own boards. The cinematography here is stunning - I love the focus on capturing the essence of the locations, rather than just the tricks.

Olympia Le-Tan, a French company specialising in unique handbags and minaudières (their current collection You Can’t Judge a Book By It’s Cover features clutches posing as literary classics), has teamed up with Spike Jonze (who seems to be prolific at the moment) and Simon Cahn to produce a stop motion short, created entirely out of felt. This behind-the-scenes teaser has me pretty excited.

Whether you love or hate Mister West, you gotta give the man props for this ambitious undertaking. Plus, he uses Justin Vernon for the penultimate moment. Right?

I love the direction a lot of advertising seems to be heading. Rather than taking an explicit ‘here’s our product, go on you know you want it’ approach, companies are hiring talented individuals to build a narrative into which the products play a secondary role.

One such example is this new video When Boy Meets Girl by über talented Sydney lad Luke Farquhar (you pronounce that Fuckwa, clearly), for General Pants Co’s 10/11 summer collection. In short, its fucking hot.

This pretty amazing documentary about Apple CEO Steve Jobs is totally worth taking fifty minutes out of your life to watch. Nerdy whilst inspirational goodness (which I guess makes it very Steve).

Coachella commissioned Sam O’Hare to shoot this tilt shift time lapse of the 2010 festival, and it’s 225,000 strong crowd. When I came across it today, I immediately wanted to see it paired with the track Brooke Fraser penned at the three day festival, from her newly released album Flags. So here they are together; just so there’s no confusion, I’ve done the mashing, but personally don’t hold the rights to either. Enjoy!

Influencers is a short documentary exploring what it means to be an ‘influencer’ and how trends & creativity become contagious today in music and fashion. Something like a snapshot of New York creatives, the film follows a number of the young men and women leading the way in advertising, design, fashion and entertainment right now; the influencers who are shaping today’s mainstream culture.

If you’re a print designer, you need to watch this.

No seriously. Now.

Pardon the tits (I say that for those who aren’t into ‘em… for those of us who are, there’s some great pairs in here…) but this music video collaboration by director Nicolás Méndez and cinematographer Marc Gómez del Moral is a fantastic homage to Carl Sagan and to film produced in South America and Europe during the 1970s, right down to the 4:3 format. It’s the latest effort (i.e. published this week!) uploaded to Marc’s vimeo, and there’s plenty of other good stuff on there for all to enjoy. FYI, the track is Bombay, the first single off El Guincho’s sophomore release Pop Negro (in case you can’t read el español).

On the back of his sophomore album Wide Eyes Blind Love, 26-year-old Brighton born singer/songwriter Mike Rosenberg, or Passenger, spent 2009 touring by setting up on street corners across the UK and Australia. Through this unique ‘busking’ approach to taking his music to the masses, it seems Rosenberg managed to meet and befriend the ‘it’ list of Australian indie…

Thus, Flight Of The Crow, Passenger’s third effort, which releases this Friday, features a series of collaborations with friends met along the way. Lior, Josh Pyke, Katie Noonan, Boy & Bear, Kate Miller Heidke, Matt Corby, as well as Gabrielle Huber and Cameron Potts of Dead Letter Chorus, all feature, lending their voices to this serendipitous creature of an LP.

The initial single Golden Thread features Sydney kid Matty Corby’s vox, in a video paired with lovely animation by Mark Charlton. If this is anything to go by, Flight will be a fine album by which to be introduced to this British troubadour.
